How did you hear about this rpg? Ditto the above

Character Information
Name: Kate Kane
Fandom: Batman
PB: Kate Mara
age: 25
journal: thebatwoman
powers: None
allegiance: Good!

Relationships: As Kate Kane, had a serious but ill-fated relationship with Renee Montoya. As Batwoman, some speculate that she and Batman have something going-- maybe even that they are a married couple when not in costume. They are so wrong. Sooo.
Friendships: As Kate, is acquainted and friendly with Bruce Wayne.
Sexuality: Lesbian/Homosexual

Strengths: Great physical strength and agility, selflessness, high energy, hard to frazzle or stress, empathetic
Weaknesses: Very preoccupied with her vigilantism, controlling, prone to pushing issues, not in-touch with emotions- hers or those of others, can go from 0 to 60 in an argument
Habits/Quirks:
- Does bouncing around Gotham fighting crime in a batsuit count as a habit?
- Overworking herself, if not as Batwoman then as Kate
- Goes to temple once a week
- Has a banana and cheerios for breakfast almost every morning. What?
Personality: Kate is intensely secretive. Of course, her being Batwoman and all kind of comes with the territory, but Kate has sort of blundered into a third secret identity in addition to the two obvious ones. She takes utmost care in dividing her different "lives," and considers the Kate Kane who lives the life of Gotham's premiere socialite to be a different Kate than the one who fights crime in black and red, who is a very different Kate than the one who dates women and goes to temple every Saturday night.

In every guise, Kate is a workaholic with a penchant for deception. She can't help it on some level, and sometimes playing chameleon based on the situation is simply what comes naturally for her. This has caused some problems in relationships- her girlfriends often feel that she's not being honest with anyone, not even herself, and everything tends to collapse around that point. Furthermore, Kate is given to be somewhat territorial, though not exactly possessive. She's very sensitive to disrespect and being slighted, but selective about the grudges she holds. She also realizes that she should have to earn the respect of others instead of expecting it on a golden platter.

Kate has earned a bit of a reputation for her sarcastic tongue- she justifies it to herself by reasoning that she interacts with hundreds of people on a regular basis, and that if she sugar-coated everything she thought she'd be wasting everyone's time. And of course, cutting people slack and not saying exactly what she's thinking just leads to her being taken advantage of. As Batwoman, she's not much different- between that and her flame-red hair it's a wonder she hasn't been recognized yet.

What was your character doing before they arrived on the island?
When the Kanes- Deacon and Kathy Kane- had their first (and, to date, only) child, she was instantly adored by the highest levels of society in Gotham. The Kanes, as the newspapers were fond of pointing out, owned anything in the city that their friends the Waynes did not (and their rhyming surnames lent themself to frequent mockery, but that is beside the point). It was inevitable that certain people began planning the wedding of the two heirs before they were out of grade school.

Clearly, the whole thing didn't quite pan out like that. First the Wayne parents were killed brutally, and without the philanthropic Wayne family to balance the Kane id, Kate's life spun off-kilter. Kate attended private boarding schools in and around Gotham while the popular opinion of her parents and their work fluctuated wildly from year to year and month to month. Every Christmas when she came home from school to celebrate with her family, she witnessed how the city had deteriorated, even in the seasonal splendor and when covered with the superficial spackle consisting of snow and various decorations. It has always been possible that she was only getting older and stopped wearing the rose colored glasses of childhood, but Kate sincerely believes that Gotham was on a downward spiral and needed someone to step in.

When she graduated college (magna cum laude), she chose to return to Gotham, passing up opportunities ranging from managing a branch of KaneCorp in Sri Lanka to dancing in the New York Ballet- even a sight-unseen marriage proposal from a British businessman, which really disturbed her very much. Instead, Kate returned to her first home, breathing new life into the Gothamite Post's social pages and taking on her alternate identity.

Prior to being swept away, Kate had been practicing vigilante justice as Batwoman for more than three years. Her tumultuous relationship with Renee Montoya, which began not long after her move back to Gotham, had just ended for what seemed to be the last time.

Writing Example:
"... and I got your bag back from Louis Vuitton; there was no charge for the maintenance. Also, Shirley Donalley from the Gothamite e-mailed me, she wants to interview you for a piece on the art comission in city hall?" Annie, Kate's personal assistant pushed at her round glasses as she looked at Kate for feedback on the request.

Kate turned a corner in the marble halls of KaneCorp's Gotham headquarters and stopped at the elevator bank, hitting the 'down' button. "Maybe. Tell her only if she e-mails the questions and lets me answer them via e-mail in my own time. When does she need the answers by?" The elevator 'dinged' very softly and the doors slid open. Kate and Annie stepped inside the elevator as Annie made 'umm'ing noises and shuffled through her papers, looking for an answer to Kate's question.

When the elevator reached the first floor, Kate and Annie stepped out, Annie going on about some meeting for which Kate was already prepared. Before they made it to the door, they'd been stopped by half a dozen people saying anything from good morning to attempting to corner Kate with complicated requests. Annie, short, pudgy but scarier-than-she-looked Annie, fended the latter off handily. "I'm going to my meeting with the people from the Human Rights Coalition. I need you to call the attorneys; check to make sure they've drafted the contract so construction on 25th Street can start. Call me if you have any problems." Annie nodded, and Kate stepped into the car waiting for her. The doorman shut the car door, and her driver pulled out into the flow of traffic.
